Happy Labor Day

Labor Day in the United States has been celebrated on the first Monday of September since the 1880s. Initially, observance and celebration of Labor Day included a street parade exhibiting "the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations" coupled with speeches by prominent men and women emphasizing the economic and civic significance of the holiday.

Today Labor Day is often regarded simply as a day of rest. Forms of celebration include BBQs, drunken escapades involving fireworks and catching up on VH1 reality show marathons featuring American laborers such as Flavor Flav and Bret Michaels.
