I hate cooked carrots.

There. I said it. "I hate cooked carrots."

[pause. more emphatically this time]

"No...I abhor cooked carrots!"

[future-tripping; she began receiving hot carrot casseroles from unknown Bloggers around the world]

Why the sudden commentary on carrots? Well, today is one of those days that could be a Cooked Carrot kind of day. I'm hoping for more of an Organic Carrot with a Stout Taproot kind of day—but it's really out of my hands.

For now, I shall embrace the Daucus Carota in all its various forms.

Le Tour de Foo

Foo loves July for 3 simple reasons: watermelon, early morning light by which to run, and the Tour de France!

2008 marks the 95th Annviersary of le Tour de France. The event will take place from July 5 to July 27, 2008; starting in the French city of Brest. The Peloton will enter Italy on the 15th stage and return to France during the 16th—heading for Paris, its final destination, in the 21st stage.

Normally Ms Foo would be rooting for home town favorite Levi Leipheimer. But because Astana (the team Levi left Discovery for...doh!) was barred from the Tour due to its involvement in the doping scandals that marred the 2007 Tour and its links to the 2006 OperaciĆ³n Puerto doping case, Levi and his lycra-wrapped fanny can't participate this year.

Foo pick:
Cadel Evans of Silence-Lotto takes the Maillot Jaune in Paris.

Foo and Loathing in Palo Alto

Wrapping up the 4th of July weekend, Foo and a number of her Electric Kool-Aid appreciative friends went to see the documentary, "Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson."

Granted, I was in kindergarten when Thompson descended on Las Vegas to chase the American Dream through a drug-induced haze, but I grew to appreciate him in the 80s through his work in Rolling Stone magazine.

If he feared anything, Thompson knew how to hide it well. "I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone," he once said, "but they've always worked for me." He died as violently as he lived: Hemingway-style.

The moral of this story: don't do drugs, kids—but check out this movie. Good stuff.

Hoppy 4th of July Weekend

Independence Day celebrates the birthday of the United States of America. Founded July 4th 1776, with the signing of the Declaration of Independence, America celebrates it's 232nd birthday this year.

So grab your furry friend and blanket, then find yourself a grassy spot with a view. Because once the stars come out to play—it's time to wish America "Happy Birthday!"

Ka-Boooom!!
